AMP-2110B-1: 100GBASE-LR4 Pre-Amplifier

The AMP-2110B-1 is an O-band semiconductor optical amplifier with low polarization sensitivity which can be used as a pre-amplifier with 100GBASE-LR4 modules and line cards (4 x 25 Gb/s) to extend their reach by increasing the overall link budget.   An example of the output power for each of the four 100GBASE-LR4 wavelengths is shown below.  Each color coded set of four output power levels corresponds to input signals at approximately -5 dBm, -10 dBm, and -16 dBm.

The AMP-2110B-1 chassis provides O-Band amplification using a single SOA component.  The bias current for the SOA can be adjusted using the Ethernet (IP addressable) or USB interface.  Therefore, the output power level can be manually adjusted, if desired, by simply changing the bias current while monitoring the output power status.  This 1U 19” rack mountable chassis is powered from a universal AC to DC power converter.  User control and status is provided by a 10/100BaseT Ethernet communications interface which allows either Static or Dynamic IP addressing.  A standard HTML browser (e.g. Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer) provides the graphical user interface and the various control and status HTML pages are integrated into the chassis’ firmware.     

Both the input and output optical power is monitored using 1% optical taps to minimize insertion loss.  A programmable Loss-of-Signal (LOS) indication can be setup and monitored for the input signal.  An alarm condition is reported via the Ethernet and USB interface as well as by the front panel LED.  A dual stage optical isolator is also present at both the input of the SOA and at its output as shown in the block diagram.

The AMP-2110B-1 can also be connected directly to a Windows based computer running the USB graphical user interface (GUI) software.  The USB GUI is also able to provide the same complete control and status of the module as the browser based GUI.
