Company Overview
Triple Play Communications (TPC) designs and manufactures custom products targeting
innovative optical and electronic technology applications. We provide a full range of engineering design capability specializing in optical products but also including high speed RF, digital, mechanical, firmware, and software expertise. We perform high-mix, low-volume manufacturing on-site utilizing our high speed electrical and optical test equipment as well as our large environmental chambers for lifetime qualification and production testing. We have also setup high volume manufacturing lines in low cost regions such as Asia when appropriate.
TPC’s product design and manufacturing capability is extremely
flexible allowing for both small design projects and full turnkey product developments.
In a full turnkey project, TPC is responsible for the entire
development task, beginning with creation of requirements
documents and continuing through qualification and production of the final hardware and software.
Our team utilizes experience from the defense communications industry as well as fiber optic module and chassis developments to design and qualify product
solutions meeting each customer’s unique needs.

Management and Engineering Team
Keith Riffee - President
Keith Riffee has over 20 years of technical and management experience developing complex communications systems and telecom equipment. His engineering background coupled with a focus on efficienct project execution allows him to quickly estimate development tasks and create an efficient plan covering initial requirements generation through final production. Keith managed all aspects of the telecom fiber optic transponder and transceiver product line while at JDS Uniphase including all product marketing and development. He also held various levels of engineering management positions at Harris Corporation which included communications systems and software organizations.
Jim Wernlund - Vice President, Engineering
Jim Wernlund has designed, tested, and qualified telecommunications equipment for 20+ years. His designs include synthesizers, mod/demodulators as well as optical transmitters, receivers, transceivers, and transponders. As a chief systems engineer at JDS Uniphase he was responsible for all technical issues associated with the telecom transceivers product line including the resolution of customer and production issues while supporting new development projects. He led the engineering effort to transition the production of high volume optical transceivers from the U.S. based factory to Asia. Jim participated in optical module Multi-Source Agreements (MSA's) by reviewing and writing sections of the formal MSA document. He holds five U.S. patents for synthesizers, modulator control loops, and TEC architectures.
Rafael Martinez - Director of Hardware and Software Engineering
Rafael Martinez has over 14 years of experience developing hardware and software designs for the communications industry. He has designed systems with FPGA's, DSP's, microcontrollers, lasers, modulators, and optical detectors for wireless communications, tracking, video transmission, motor control, and a variety of optical transceivers and transponders. Rafael designed real-time embedded firmware for the 2.7 Gb/s DWDM SFP and for optical line cards with a variety of active and passive optical components (e.g. EDFA, tunable filter, VOA, AWG). He has been responsible for the development and production of multiple Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) modules with reaches up to 650 km.
Tuanc Diep - Director of Operations and Mechanical Engineering
Tuanc Diep has 17 years experience in both high volume and high reliability opto-electronics manufacturing including mechanical engineering, configuration management, procurement, and quality. He has performed the mechanical design for MSA optical modules as well as custom chassis. Tuanc led a CAD engineering team in all facets of electronics packaging including tooling and automated systems to support high volume production. While at JDS Uniphase, he successfully managed optical product transitions from multiple JDS Uniphase facilities to contract manufacturers in China, Malaysia, and Thailand. Tuanc was an expatriate to Southeast Asia for over 2 years responsible for developing and qualifying contract manufacturer's processes for JDS Uniphase products.
Terry Lonsway - Manager of Test Engineering
Terry Lonsway has 20+ years experience integrating and testing custom communications systems and products in both the defense and telecommunications industries. He was responsible for defining requirements of custom optical test equipment to be used for production testing of optical modules and chassis. He has developed plans and procedures for design verification and environmental qualification testing. Terry's detailed knowledge of industry test standards allows him to efficiently create product test procedures and qualification reports to verify all requirements are met. While at JDS Uniphase, he was reponsible for the qualification and testing of all telecom transceivers up through the OC-48 data rate.
